Goal 12: Ensure Sustainable Consumption and Production Patterns
Cities are axes of ideas, trade, culture, science, productivity, social development and much more. At their best, cities have enabled people to progress socially and economically. However, there are many challenges to keeping cities in a way that continues to create jobs and prosperity while not stressing land and resources. Common urban challenges include overcrowding, lack of funds for the provision of basic services, inadequate housing, and low infrastructure. The challenges faced by cities can be overcome in ways that allow them to continue to thrive and grow while improving the use of resources, pollution reduction, and poverty. The future we aspire to includes cities of opportunity for all, with access to basic services, energy, housing, transportation, and others.
