Goal 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls

Although the world has made progress in gender equality under the Millennium Development Goals (including equal access to primary education for girls and boys), women and girls continue to suffer discrimination and violence in every part of the world. Gender equality is not only a fundamental human right, but also a necessary foundation for peace, prosperity and sustainability in the world. Providing equal access for women and girls to education, health care, decent work, representation in political and economic processes and decision-making will serve as fuel for sustainable economies and benefit societies and humanity as a whole.
